Tracking down the colossal ancient remains in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most rewarding side quests for exploratory players. While the skeletons in Eldin and Gerudo are exposed to the open sky, the Hebra Great Skeleton is cleverly hidden away. Finding this giant fossil requires navigating harsh freezing temperatures and solving an environmental puzzle tucked deep within the snowy peaks.

Where to Locate the Hebra Great Skeleton

The Hebra Leviathan is concealed inside a subterranean glacial cavern beneath the Hebra North Summit. Because it is located underground, you will not be able to spot the giant bones directly from the map screen like the other two. Look closely at the map just east of the Hebra North Summit peak to find a small square body of water.

This small pond serves as your main landmark for finding the cave's hidden entrance. Preparing proper cold resistance gear or warming dishes is essential before making the trek up the mountain. Once you arrive near the pool, you will notice a massive sealed stone door down the slope.

Solving the Snowball Gate Puzzle

To break open the entrance to the cavern, you must roll a giant snowball down the snowy hill to smash the heavy doors. However, an open gap filled with water stands directly in the snowball's path. If you roll a snowball without preparation, it will drop straight into the water and sink.

Use your Cryonis rune to create ice pillars in the puddle to bridge the gap completely. Next, climb back up the slope, grab one of the large snowballs, and throw it down the hill. The snowball will gain size as it rolls over the ice pillar and forcefully bash open the door.

Exploring the Cave and Photographing the Skull

Stepping inside the cavern reveals the majestic Hebra Great Skeleton resting in the icy darkness. Nestled directly beneath the giant ribcage is the To Quomo Shrine, which serves as a handy fast-travel point once activated. You can also open the chest inside the shrine to collect a Royal Claymore.

To complete your objective for the Leviathan Bones side quest, equip Link's Camera rune. Make sure to align the camera angle so that the head of the skeleton is clearly visible within the frame. Once the camera registers the target, snap the picture and return to the researchers at Serenne Stable to claim your reward.
